While every effort is made to keep function and symbol names clear and concise,
there are some situations in which the advantage of the brevity of an acronym,
nickname, or other shortening outweighs the increased clarity of spelling
everything out. To help newcomers to the codebase cope with these situations,
this document expands on these terms as they are used.
